Direct Support Professional Job Summary

We are looking for a responsible, caring, and compassionate direct support professional (DSP) to join our growing team. The ideal job candidate will be highly dependable and have a passion for helping those with physical and/or mental disabilities live a more fulfilled and happy life. Working one-on-one with each client, you will assess his/her needs and tend to them accordingly with the goal of fostering a positive, encouraging environment.

Direct Support Professional Duties and Responsibilities

• Be a personal companion to clients and act as a supportive friend serving their needs and working to build their independence
• Encourage and foster individuals’ preferred hobbies and interests
• Assist with and work to strengthen the individuals’ many daily living needs, including but not limited to: nutrition, hygiene, exercise, communication, and socialization skills
• Help individuals to bathe, groom and dress, eat and drink if necessary, always working to improve self-reliance
• Create daily schedules and plans for clients
• Help set individual goals and track client progress, noting any drastic changes; report findings to superiors
• Make phone calls and drive clients to appointments, meetings, events, etc.
• Encourage individual skill development and work towards community integration
• Develop meaningful relationships and connections with clients to make them feel cared for and included in the community
• Follow all health and safety protocol
• Help clean and tidy home for the individuals
• Attend continuing education courses, training and get further certified as the job requires
• Be a compassionate, patient and encouraging support professional at all times

Direct Support Professional Requirements and Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• CPR certification (preferred)
• Pass state background check (dependent on state requirements)
• Comfortable working independently and can consistently make good judgments that benefit the client
• Flexible, with a keen ability to handle stress well
• Friendly disposition with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude
• Computer literate and technologically savvy
• Experience tracking and recording information
• Enjoy working with developmentally disabled individuals to improve their quality of life
• Can quickly manage stressful situations responsibly and effectively
• Strong interpersonal skills and passionate about helping those in need
• Ability to move and stand for prolonged periods and frequently perform physically demanding tasks

PROGRAM SPECIALIST JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for contacting Service Coordinators and other officials to recruit consumers consultations

Attends prospective consumer meetings with families, SC’s and support team

Responsible for Consumer intake process information is received prior to move in

Responsible for making sure everything in the ISP is correct and accurate

Schedules consumer compliance appts such as Physical (Annually), Dental (Every 6 Month), Vison/Hearing (Annually), Gyne (Annually), Mammogram (Every 2 years), Prostate (Every 2 years) and Psych appointments every three months- including blood work if needed) confirms that appointment paper is completed to its entirety

Ensures all clients have vaccination records on file including Man

Schedules follow-up and specialty service appointments as necessary

HRST input and updates

Responsible for monthly notes, quarterlies, assessments, lifetime medical history

Contacts consumers families that are involved with updates on a monthly basis

Responsible for annual ISP Meeting

ISP training in orientation for new staff (Before or during shadow training)

Responsible for making goals and outcomes in the ISP that make sense and are personalize to client needs

Responsible for maintaining the goals and reflecting the progress, regression in monthly and quarterlies]

Responsible for keeping permanent files up to date, in order and ready for licensing always

QUALIFICATIONS

“Working directly with individuals with an intellectual disability or autism” means that the program specialist’s work history must include consistent, face-to-face interaction with individuals. Work experience that did not include such interaction (such as administrative work) may not be counted, even if the work was related to indirect support of individuals.

Years of work may be cumulative.

Inspection Procedures: Licensing staff will review Program Specialist educational qualifications.

Primary Benefit: Ensures that the Program Specialist will have the necessary education and experience to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities required of the position

A program specialist shall have one of the following groups of qualifications:

1. A master’s degree or above from an accredited college or university and 1 year of work

experience working directly with individuals with an intellectual disability or autism.

2. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and 2 years of work

experience working directly with individuals with an intellectual disability or autism.

3. An associate’s degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university and 4

years of work experience working directly with individuals with an intellectual disability or

autism.

Discussion: Degrees may be in any subject.
